You may be wondering…
Starting therapy can be daunting and it makes sense to have some questions or uncertainties. Below I’ve answered some questions about getting started, what to expect, and how we'll work together.
Getting Started
How do I get started?
1
I offer a free 20-minute consultation to explore whether we are a good fit to work together. I'll ask some questions about what you are looking for in therapy and any past experiences you've had. I'll also leave space for you to ask anything you'd like about me or my approach. If we decide to move forward, I'll send over some intake paperwork and we'll schedule our first session.
What should I expect in the first session?
2
The first session is a chance for us to begin getting to know one another. I'll ask questions to help me better understand you, what's bringing you to therapy, and what you're hoping to get out of our work together. There's no pressure to have everything figured out or to know exactly what you want to work on — we can sort that out together.
What if I'm feeling nervous to reach out?
3
It makes complete sense to feel nervous — starting therapy is a vulnerable thing to do. Don't worry about saying all the right things or knowing exactly what you need. My role is to help you feel at ease, and we'll move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Where is your office located?
4
My office is located at 123 South Broad Street in Center City, Philadelphia, easily accessible by public transit. I also offer telehealth sessions to clients throughout Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Connecticut. If you're unsure whether in-person or telehealth is the right fit for you, we can talk through it during our free consultation.
Fees and Insurance
How much does therapy cost, and do you offer sliding scale fees?
1
Individual sessions are $190 and couples and relationship sessions are $250. I believe therapy should be accessible, and I offer a small number of sliding scale slots for those who would not otherwise be able to afford it. Please feel free to ask about availability during our consultation.
Do you take insurance?
2
I do not directly bill insurance, but I am happy to provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement. Many clients are able to recoup a portion of their session fees this way. I believe that therapy works best when its length, goals, and frequency are determined by us together, not by a third party, and working outside of insurance allows for that kind of flexibility and autonomy in our work.
The Work
How long does therapy take?
1
There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this, and I believe the length, goals, and pace of therapy should be shaped by you and what you need. As our work together unfolds, we will continue to check in about how therapy is feeling and adjust as needed.
What is relational trauma?
2
Relational trauma refers to the harm or challenges that occur within relationships — whether in childhood or in adult relationships that have left lasting wounds. It is often cumulative and can be difficult to name, which is why many people arrive at therapy sensing that something is off in their relationships or their sense of self, without quite knowing why.
Do you work with LGBTQ+, queer, and trans clients?
3
Yes. As a queer person myself, working with queer clients is a deeply meaningful part of my practice. I am committed to providing affirming, inclusive care for LGBTQ+, queer, and trans clients, and offer a space where all of your identities are welcomed, respected, and held. I also work with parents of queer children who are looking for support in showing up for their kids.
